Stash Enhancement Saturday

My yarns from gnarledpaw arrived this week.

This is Other Eden:

This is Dark Landscape:

I've decided to do Tour de Sock this year.  There's zero chance of me winning anything even though I knit fairly quickly (the Finns knit at the speed of light).  I'm doing it to donate to Doctors Without Borders and as a stashbusting exercise.  Signups start tomorrow.

The part about it being stashbusting might be a lie.  The many fine yarn companies that sponsor the TdS supply discount codes to the participants.  Discount is a magic word.  You know how they say that if you eat broken cookies, the calories don't count?  (When they break, the calories all fall out.)  It's like that with a yarn diet.  If you buy yarn with a discount, you aren't going off of your yarn diet.   I got the yarns pictured with a discount, so my yarn diet continues.

At least until the discount codes start appearing.

WIP Wednesday

It's actually Thursday.  My sleeping/waking hours are odd so I keep losing days here and there.

I'm working on the double knit scarf alternately with socks.  If I do 5 rows of the scarf, I'm rewarded with a little bit of sock.

One of them is the Sock Lovers Sock:

See the little socks on it?

The other one is Lucy in the Sky:
See the diamonds?

FO Friday

A bunch of socks have been completed since I last posted on a Friday.  I don't think any of them have been posted as completed before.

Blood will have Blood, the latest in the Club Mac knit-along.  I tried it with a couple of more blood colored yarns, but it just didn't work out.  Pattern's more obvious in real life.

Double Double, the sock before last in Club Mac.  I may have these in the wrong order, but I do know they are Club Mac:

Laurier, he current pattern in Knit-From-Stash:

Superhero socks.  From this point on, they all clearly need blocking.  If I waited to do that, this post would not happen for even longer:

South Pole socks (finally, some finished this week):

P Sherman:

A Day in Stars Hollow (whole picture is in the last post, this is to show detail):

I've got two more pair in the works.  The plan is to alternate between them and the doubleknit scarf and maybe get them all done.  I've got new yarn on the way, so we'll see how long that plan lasts.

WIP Wednesday

I'm on the second sock of each of these.

This one's a pattern called P Sherman and has a big cable down the middle and a little one on each side.  The yarn's a discontinued kind called Sockotta that's 45% cotton and 55% wool.  Do not like.  I've got two balls of it in another colorway.  I'm going to use it on my knitter's loom.

This one's called Dragonfly.  The yarn (both of them) are A Day in Stars Hollow.  The sock is partly an experiment in wide leg/normal foot.  I think the foot is still a tad too big.  I can imagine the yarn knitted up in a long skinny scarf with the solid color in a fringe on each end.  Lorelai might wear that.

This one is Boddam, with little cables and a zig zag pattern in purl stitches down the front.  The yarn's from Gnarled Paw and is called Wooly-Paca.  It's really nice.  Gnarled Paw is having a sale that ends at midnight US Eastern time when April 20 turns over into April 21.  Go to Etsy and check it out.  I liked the yarn so much I went off my yarn diet by a couple of skeins.  None of the Wooly-Paca was on sale (at least in a colorway I liked) but I found some that I did like.
Sorry about the pictures.  Camera and I are at war again.

WIP Wednesday

My work on multiple socks at once continues.

The superhero socks are almost done.

I was attracted to the South Pole Socks after watching several nature shows about penguins.

This yarn is one of the oldest in my stash.  Pink, I should use it, I thought.  Then I started knitting with it and remembered why I hadn't used it.  I think it is cotton or cotton blend.  The texture is not one I like.  Still, I plan to finish the socks.  I've forgotten the pattern name.

I'm a big fan of the tv show Gilmore Girls.  When I saw last week's Entertainment Weekly with Lorelai and Rory on the cover, I started getting obsessed with it again.  I have this yarn called A Day in Stars Hollow and decided I must knit something with it immediately!  I struggled to come up with a pattern that was related in some way to the show.  The lightbulb went on and I did a Ravelry search on "dragonfly" (Lorelai has an inn in Stars Hollow called the Dragonfly).  I found a pattern called Dragonfly Socks that should work.  We'll see.

Stash Enhancement Saturday

Perfect timing, Mad Color!  It's Saturday and you've supplied both yarn and a bag for enhancement.

This is the final shipment in the Monty Python club.  The yarn's called Your Father Smells of Elderberries.  I don't recall ever seeing an elderberry, but I'll bet it falls in this color range.  I like it.

The Jessalu bag is inspired by  "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?".  It has many blue birds which are no doubt swallows plus a bunch of formulas that must have something to do with velocity.  I like it, especially since the color and design are unlike any of my other Jessalu bags.

WIP Wednesday

...aka Sock Knitter's ADD.

I'm alternating between 3 different sock patterns.  I'll do a cuff on one pair, a pattern repeat on another pair, and a heel turn on a third.  It's goofy but it suits me.

Superhero Socks:

I've had the Captain America yarn for ages.  It was from my shiny yarn phase.  The picture doesn't show it but there's silver in the red/blue yarn.  I happened upon the Starry Night sock pattern and though it would translate from fine art inspired socks to graphic novel inspired socks.  I wasn't sure about it at first, but now that I see the picture, it looks a lot like what I wanted.

Double Double socks:
It is the latest Club Mac pattern (inspired by Macbeth).  It's hard to see, but it has a pretty lace and cable pattern.  It's coming out well, but it will be a real nail-biter to see if there's enough yarn to finish the sceond sock.

Laurier:
This is April's knit from stash sock.

Finished Object Friday

I knit another pair of Water for the Elephants socks:
They're both done.  There's only one pictured because the camera wants charging.

This was one of my multiple tries with extra drama.  I saw a pair made with a multicolored background and wanted to make some.  I tried two or three different colors without success.  It turns out that self-striping is a bad idea with a capital BAD.  I looked at many pictures of completed socks.  I ended up using some
Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball because other people had used it and I did have a ball in my stash.  It wasn't what I wanted, but I still like the socks.
