Tour de Sock 2017 - Sock 5

After having to reknit 2/3 of one sock due to a mis-crossed cable, I was in no mood to fight with the camera.  The pictures I took for judging show up really dark here and are even harder to see.  Perhaps in the morning I'll do a replacement.  Fingers crossed that I don't have to redo the judging pictures also.

ETA:  judging pictures went through.  76th on this pair, 50th overall through previous sock.

Finished Object Friday

It's Frida Kathlo.  She's propped up by the thirty or so squares for my Yarnia blanket.

Stash Enhancement Saturday

I had to have the whole set of the Beatlemania skeins.  This is the White Album.  You can order skeins where the stripes match exactly or two different ones.  I got the different ones, Disc A and Disc B.  The minis were not necessary, but they match the Sgt. Pepper skein and they are each named after a Beatle.  They might be fun to do cuff/heel/toe while using the White Album skeins.

I haven't used any of Must Stash's yarn yet.  It does seem like a good quality.  They communicate well and ship promptly.

WIP Wednesday

I got a couple more inches done on the Harley sweater.  At this rate, it will be cold enough to wear it when it gets done.

Yarnia squares are almost up to date:

I have the next clue for the Don't Panic shawl but haven't started it yet.  This is the first two clues:
It will continue to get more colorful.

The queue of things to follow is magically getting longer.  Several socks patterns and several yarns are calling to me.  I'm trying to not listen.

Tour de Sock 2017 - Sock 3

What you can't see are alternating sections of cables.  The top has a picot border and the heel continues the pattern down from the leg.  This got me a bonus point.  It was a minor nightmare trying to get the required pictures for judging because of the wild and crazy yarn I chose.

I finished within an hour of the person on my team who finished first.  I also finished ten places higher overall, which got my team a few more points.  Yay!

ETA:  Overall standing, 69.  Standing on sock 3:  67.  Team TARDIS - Doctors 14th.

Is it just me?

I was disappointed in some yarn that I got today.  I ordered this:

 and got this:

It's close, I suppose, but much more brown than I expected.

I also ordered this:
and got this:
Not close at all.  Or is it just me?

WIP Wednesday

I spun all of the Phat Fiber samples into a single ball.  I thought that plying them together would result in mud.  I didn't feel like spinning something to ply with them.  I decided that I would use them with some DK to end up with something worsted-ish weight to use with the Yarnia squares.  Here's the first one:
The whole thing is a knit from stash project so it works okay for me.

I started a shawl knitalong.  I know, the perfect thing to do when I drop everything for Tour de Sock every few days.  It has a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy theme, so I had to do it.  I even have a project bag for it.  Also, it reduces my stash.  I bought a Lace Ball (laceweight version of Zauberball Crazy) by accident last year and really ought to use it up.  It looks pretty tame now, but I'm only 30 rounds in:
We get another clue tomorrow.

On Friday there's a new Yarnia square AND a new Tour de Sock project.  I won't be around until the TdS is done and that might be some time.  The clue we got reminded me of the two previous  TdS projects I gave up on because of spectacularly difficult construction.

Here's what I would've posted on Saturday:
It is called Land of Submarines and I love it.  It is the second in Must Stash's Beatlemania series.  The paper in the background is a coloring page for creating your own colorway.  I'm going to save it and maybe use it for an embroidery project.
