no Finished Objects again this Friday

Why is nothing done?

  • The thing on the bottom is the Ten Stitch Blanket. I'm using up little bits of handspun, mini skeins, and leftovers to make it. It's an ongoing (and going and going) project.
  • Chocolate Moose socks are boring after the heel turn. I knit about an inch of the foot at a time and then have to do something else. At least I'm on the second sock.
  • Miss Moneybags is a cute little coin purse. It's all done except for the hardware on top. I don't have it yet so it's not my fault it isn't done.
  • The band of orange is the start of the Betrayal Mittens. I was just about to start the interesting (pattern) part when I slipped my hand through the cuff. It is way, way, way too big. I dropped my needles and decided to log on here for a break.

Frog the mitten and restart -or- toss everything aside and start a new project? New project, of course! I have been inspired by a bag I saw on Pinterest. The maker had embroidered a bunch of Doctor Who-themed patches and used them to make a tote bag. I'm making a messenger bag from a pattern. The back's going to be a quilt square based on the 10" TARDIS pattern. I haven't quite worked out the front. It'll probably use the bunch of DW fabric I've acquired from Spoonflower. The flap will have my favorite quotes along with some small cross-stitch pieces I've done. I'm thinking about using my sewing machine's built-in alphabets to have it embroider at least some of the quotes.

I finished something

They are the amaryllis mittens. They've been in my queue for years. I got the pattern as a present a couple of years ago. The colorwork came out fine. It'll look even better when they've been steamed a little bit. I think this is a project for the win column.

Almost a month

I scrolled back and it was March 8 when I told myself to stay out of Etsy and not to order any yarn. My receipt from The Cyborg's Craft Room is dated April 2.

The lighter one is Sidewalk Chalk. The darker one is After the Storm. I didn't pay much attention to the fiber content, so I was surprised when I unwrapped them. They both have stellina in them. The yarn's called Assparkilate which should've given me a clue. I was just surprised. I like shiny.

Sideways Sock Saturday

I finished the Biscotte & Cie mystery sock yesterday:

I liked their yarn. The pattern was fun, but I think the last clue got a bit mangled in the translation from French. No worries, it was easy to figure out.

This is my Use it or Lose it project for April. I don't know why I had to have that yarn. I don't know what I was thinking. At least I used it up in a fun way.

Both socks are knit mostly on two needles. The back of the sock is knit. Then you pick up stitches, knit the front, and graft it to the other side. The toe on one is done in the round and the cuff on the other is. After doing a zillion socks in the round, this was interesting and fun.

Downton fun

I got my Downton Abbey swap today. It was really fun. I got lots of goodies and the person who sent it made it fun with puns and jokes.

The thing on the bottom in the first picture is a tote bag. Mrs. Padmore thinks it should be for carrying shopping in the market. I think it's supposed to be filled with yarn for a new project. The things in the upper right a Downton Abbey bingo cards. I plan to use them when the next season comes around. They're really funny. The red box on the left holds a knitter's chatelaine. Its a thing you pin to yourself or hook on your knitting bag and it has a bunch of tools on it. Mine has stitch markers, a row counter, scissors and a stitch holder.

The other picture has a green shawl and a little cabled bag for keeping one's calling cards in. I may use it for stitch markers. Nobody tell the Dowager Countess or she'll make some crack about uncivilized Americans. There's also a skein of hand-dyed yarn that's the same as the yarn leftover from the cabled bag. Also some pretty rose buttons. I think the yarn and the buttons want to be one thing, but I don't know what it is yet.
